Nominating external and internal reviewers
Schools and Departments are responsible for proposing suitable external and internal reviewers for the review team.
External subject experts
Schools and Departments should nominate:
- Three external experts from the Scottish sector (in order of preference)
- Three external experts from elsewhere in the UK (in order of preference)
For each nominee, the following information must be provided:
- A link to their biography
- A short rationale for the nomination
- A statement confirming whether the nominee has had any prior involvement with the School or Department. Previous involvement will not normally exclude participation. However, the following individuals will not be appointed:
- Former staff, students, or External Examiners within the past three years
- Individuals with close personal or research relationships with School or Department staff
External reviewers should be:
- Well-respected in their discipline
- Actively engaged in teaching
- Familiar with national and international good practice
External reviewers may come from higher education, industry, or professional practice.
In some cases, one external reviewer may be drawn from a professional, statutory or regulatory body (PSRB) or industry. While international representation may be considered, it is not required.
The Chair will select the external reviewers from the nominations provided. The Quality team will issue formal invitations and make all travel and accommodation arrangements.
Internal reviewer
Schools and Departments should nominate three internal staff members (in order of preference) from a cognate area. These should be academics with:
- Experience overseeing learning and teaching provision
- A strong understanding of institutional priorities
A brief rationale should be provided for each nomination. The Chair will select from this list or appoint an alternative.
Student representatives
- The School President is recruited by the Students’ Association
- The PGR representative is appointed by the Quality team from students undertaking (or who have recently completed) the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
