Key details: A practical workshop supporting teaching staff to design engaging digital learning activities using a design-first approach.

Target audience

This workshop is suitable for teaching staff at any stage of their digital teaching practice who design learning activities for on-campus or online delivery and want to take a more intentional, design-led approach to using digital tools. The workshop offers an opportunity to design or redesign a specific learning activity, while developing practical skills in digital learning.

Course pre-work

Participants should arrive with an idea of a digital learning activity that they want to design or redesign during the workshop.

Course information

This hands-on workshop supports teaching staff to design effective and engaging digital learning activities, starting with learning design rather than technology. Participants will define their learners, learning outcomes, and context, then create a visual storyboard to represent the learner experience. Using this storyboard, they will explore and evaluate digital tools that best support their design, leaving with a clear, transferable plan for a digital learning activity.

Aims and objectives

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • take a design-first approach to creating digital learning activity

  • choose appropriate digital tools to facilitate digital learning experiences

  • access appropriate digital learning resources and support
