“Should We Eliminate the Child Penalty?“

In recent years, labour market economists have learned a great deal about the extent, causes, and consequences of the child penalty — a term that refers to caregivers鈥� lower earnings in comparison with those of non-caregivers. In this talk, I draw on the tools of moral and political philosophy to offer a novel account of the nature and extent of the associated injustice, as well as a sketch of the appropriate response from policymakers. So long as time permits, I will conclude with some reflections on the moral status of the gender pay gap in the light of my results.
