If I agree to your doing X to me\, for instance\, and all goes well\, then I waive any right I had against your doing X to me\, and other things being equal\, you are morally permitted to do X to me. This paper concerns what it takes for all to be going\, in the relevant sense\, well. In particular\, under what circumstances does ignorance on my part\, or deception on yours\, prevent my agreement from constituting valid consent? Commonsense liberal ethics says it does so only when I am ignorant about central elements of the situation: if I am deceived about who it is I am agreeing to have sex with\, for example\, because of a partners disguise\, I do not give valid consent. But if I am seduced by someone who exaggerates their influence in my industry\, it is widely thought\, whatever wrong done to me is not a violation of my consent. Tom Dougherty has argued against this commonsense stance\, suggesting that any time one is deceived about a dealbreaker\, ones consent is invalidated.\nI will argue three things. First\, Doughertys view cannot be right; it is subject to clear counterexamples. Second\, attempts to rehabilitate the dealbreaker framework by invoking subtler distinctions in the same spirit are unlikely to succeed; a parallel to the defeaters literature in post-Gettier epistemology is instructive. Third\, this motivates an altogether different way of thinking about the motivating questions: instead of focusing on whether deception can prevent ones agreement to from constituting valid consent to \, we should focus instead on questions of just what contents one consenting to\, given the conventional ways in which consent is communicated.\n \nWhen all goes well\, ones agreement to constitutes valid consent to . I will present a sequence of observations which illustrate how the liar and sorites paradoxes are formally related\, culminating in the observation that both give rise to similar sorts of mathematical incompleteness phenomena. On this basis\, I will highlight the possibility of using formal undecidability in modeling semantic indeterminacy. Another methodological project which has been attracting attention in the last few years is conceptual engineering (CE). Its areas of implementation are now diverse\, but as was the case initially with experimental philosophy\, aesthetics has unfortunately been left out. In this paper I argue that if conceptual engineers are interested in expanding their project to the field of aesthetics\, which would greatly benefit the field\, then they should rely on the existing experimental work of aestheticians. Instead of building a CE project in aesthetics from the ground up\, this paper explores the potential support experimental aesthetics could provide to CE\, thereby making its development more efficiently realizable. Furthermore\, I argue that doing so would be beneficial to experimental aesthetics. Currently\, the integration of X-Phi to the wider field of aesthetics is losing ground because certain objections\, predominantly the objection that X-Phi cannot be of relevance to normative questions\, have not been properly refuted. By pairing up with a normative programme like CE\, experimental aestheticians could finally put these objections to rest. I will consider this dimension of the so-called Frege-Hilbert controversy in light of the subsequent work in logic and philosophy which it inspired. I will argue for the following claims: i) the controversy both anticipated G繹dels completeness theorem and shaped its reception (in which Bernays played a central role); ii) Frege was right to maintain that consistency checking is as difficult as it can be; ii) Hilbert was also right to maintain that given consistency\,demonstrating the existence of a model is as easy as it can be. In this piece we challenge this more traditional understanding and argue for an enactive approach to imagination. We specifically focus on imaginative exercises that involve experiential imagination and argue that this enactive approach might provide a better account of certain constraints of imagination. We argue that imagination is akin to an affectively charged exploratory activity of a non-actual scenario. In our view\, previous interactions with our environment affectively attune us to respond to these scenarios in a way that leave our imaginative capacity constrained. \n \nAs usual\, the seminar willtake place inEdgecliffe\, room G03\,12-2pm. But little has been said so far on how to best construe these representational apparatuses for the very purposes of conceptual engineering in other words\, on what conceptual engineering should be all about. This paper addresses this foundational issue in conceptual engineering\, and successively defends the theses that conceptual engineering should be: (i) About concepts\, (ii) psychologically construed\, (iii) as multiply realizable functional kinds. And thereby it claims to theoretically secure and justify the maximum scope\, flexibility\, and impact for the method of conceptual engineering on our representational apparatuses in our whole cognitive life.
