He <\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(23, 78, 134)\">looks for a way to avoid the repugnant conclusion. The solution he offers depends on the <\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(23, 78, 134)\">existence of imprecision within the relation of betterness among populations. Other <\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(23, 78, 134)\">philosophers have taken up the same challenge, following Parfit\u2019s lead, and offered similar <\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(23, 78, 134)\">solutions. <\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(23, 78, 134)\">I shall show that actually the repugnant conclusion is not implied by Parfit\u2019s appealing <\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(23, 78, 134)\">principle. The continuum argument is invalid. There is therefore no paradox and no real <\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(23, 78, 134)\">challenge. Moreover, the explanation of why this is so has nothing to do with imprecision, <\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(23, 78, 134)\">incompleteness, incommensurateness, indeterminacy or vagueness in betterness.
