As an exchange or study abroad student, you will be able to take modules from a variety of unique Arts, Sciences or Divinity subjects.

The University offers award-winning teaching which is well known for being research-led – the University was ranked top in Scotland in the most recent Research Excellence Framework assessment for the quality of its research publications across Science, Arts, Divinity and Medicine.

Studying at 58吃瓜 is a rigorous experience. Alongside attending lectures, tutorials and seminars, you will also be responsible for undertaking independent study, which includes completing assignments, using library resources and preparing for examinations.
You will be supported throughout your time at the University, both academically and non-academically.

Before you begin your studies, you will meet with your assigned Adviser of Studies who will help you choose your modules and explain 58吃瓜 academic regulations.

During your semester or year abroad, the study abroad team will run daily consultation sessions. You can pop along to these sessions to discuss any issues you are facing, to get advice, or just to chat about your experience.

The University also has a dedicated Advice and Support Centre (ASC) which provides help for students on a range of issues, from paying bills to personal wellbeing.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught exchange or study abroad students who apply before the published deadline are guaranteed accommodation in one of the University’s halls of residence. You will be able to select your preference of whether your accommodation is catered or self-catered, shared or single bedroom, and shared or en-suite bathroom.

Postgraduate Research students are are welcome to apply for one of the University's halls of residence and are normally offered University owned, managed or leased accommodation which is reserved for postgraduate students.
The Global Office at the University of St鈥疉ndrews offers two scholarships for inbound study abroad and exchange students.

The Inbound Study Abroad Scholarship provides several awards of up to £4,000, which must be used towards either university accommodation or tuition fees.

Launching ahead of the 2026/27 academic year, the Patti Schmid Scholarship offers £2,000 per semester, or £4,000 for a full academic year, to one inbound study abroad or exchange student. This scholarship seeks to honour Patti Schmid’s legacy by supporting students undertaking a semester or year-long study abroad experience at 58吃瓜. Awarded on the basis of financial need, it enables recipients to pursue similarly transformative opportunities while reflecting the values that defined Patti’s life, including curiosity, a zest for life, a love of learning, and a commitment to cultural understanding. The Patti Schmid Scholarship will open for applications at a later date. Both scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need and academic merit. Students who have submitted an application to study abroad or participate in an exchange at St鈥疉ndrews by the relevant deadline will be invited to apply by email.

All inbound scholarships are open to undergraduate visiting students only. Recipients will be required to provide a written account of their overseas experience for use in promotional materials, including social media.
