Module description
The objective of the module is language learning and cultural familiarisation through a work placement in an Arabic-speaking country. Students are responsible for identifying placements in line with their needs and interests, which must be proposed to the department for approval subject to feasibility and risk assessment. Guidance will be provided; however, placements cannot be guaranteed by the department. Formal learning and assessment will occur across both semesters and be through: (i) Two short written assignments in Arabic totalling 500 words. (ii) Three longer written assignments in Arabic totalling 2500 words on a topic or topics chosen in consultation with the module co-ordinator. (iii) A 10-minute oral examination in Arabic to be sat upon the student’s return to 58³Ô¹Ï after the WIYA year, during which the year abroad experience will be presented and discussed.
