The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. Module description

This module will build upon the skills gained in CN3002. Emphasis will be placed translation into and out of Chinese and free composition. Students will also give oral presentations on academic topics in Chinese. A variety of modern and contemporary texts will be used to broaden students' knowledge of the language.

Intended learning outcomes

  • By the end of the module the student will be able to recognise and write c. 1650 characters and approximately 4500 words.
  • Students will be able to use and comprehend complex sentence structures to describe the development of events with accurate pronunciation and tone.
  • Students will be able to use complex sentence structures and complete narrative, explanatory and argumentative writing tasks.
  • Students will be able to read and understand longer texts from Chinese sources on a variety of complex topics, understanding compound sentences.
