Module description

This module will build upon the skills gained in the fourth-year module CN4001. Emphasis will be placed on translation into and out of Chinese and free composition. Students will also give oral presentations on academic topics in Chinese. A variety of modern and contemporary texts will be used to broaden further students' knowledge of the language.

Intended learning outcomes

  • By the end of the module the student will be able to recognise and write c 1800 characters, and approximately 4800 words.
  • Students will be able to use and comprehend complex sentence structures, accurate pronunciation and tone to discuss a variety of complex ideas, topics and questions.
  • The student will be able to write sophisticated commentaries and more complex, longer essays
  • Students will be able to comprehend longer, more advanced texts from authentic sources covering a variety of topics.
