Module description

This module will focus on the notions of identity and community as they have been thought and expressed in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, at the intersection between philosophy, literature and film. What does it mean to be together or 'be with'? Who or what do we identify with? Who is 'we'? Who can say 'we' and on behalf of whom? These questions are relevant to the reflection on cultural as opposed to national identity, especially in the context of globalisation. Notions of migration(s), language, representation and participation will be central to this module. Authors on the programme will include H矇l癡ne Cixous, Jacques Derrida, Jean-Luc Nancy and Marc Cr矇pon. This module will be taught primarily in French.
