Module description
This module is designed to provide a more advanced understanding of research design and statistics. Emphasis will be placed on the acquisition of analytical skills covering typical research situations encountered in the behavioural sciences. There is also an emphasis on integration of concepts across a family of techniques based on correlation and regression. The syllabus will include such topics as multiple regression, path analysis, mediation analysis, moderated multiple regression, conditional process models, and will involve working with real datasets from data collection to analysis. There is a focus on computerized data analysis, interpretation, and presentation.

Intended learning outcomes
- Use SPSS for computerised data analysis and be able to generalise the interpretation of statistical output from other analysis programs
- Understand core statistical concepts from normal-theory least-squares models, and in particular from the correlation/multiple regression/factor analysis family of techniques.
- Know the steps of practical data analysis from first receiving data to analysing and reporting results
- Critically read and interpret the results sections of psychological literature
