Module description
This module explores the theory & practice of environmental politics in issues of Sustainable Development. Drawing on concepts from Politics & International Relations we will critically analyse past & current environmental challenges and discourses. The module pays particular attention to the political actors involved in contemporary Sustainable Development issues as well as their interests and behaviours. It includes a comparative political analysis element as well as a global environmental governance dimension. Distinct features of this module are - the use of policy briefings as written assignments, tutorial discussion papers, and practitioner involvement.

Intended learning outcomes
- By the end of the module, students will be provided with an understanding of the environmental politics discourse as well as an overview of the main ecological wicked problems from a political science perspective.
- By the end of the module, students will be able to analyse (and compare in different settings) unique and characteristic features in environmental problem-solving and governance.
- By the end of the module, students will be able to identify relevant concepts, ideologies, actors and political contexts involved in environmental politics.
- By the end of the nodule, students will be aware of the shared as well as context-specific dilemmas in environmental politics and policy.
- By the end of the module, students will be able to evaluate the link (or rather: gap) between environmental policy intentions and reality.
