The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) provides an indication of the complexity of award qualifications and associated learning and operates on an ascending numeric scale from Levels 1-12 with SCQF Level 10 equating to a Scottish undergraduate Honours degree.

Module description

The Historical Research Project may be taken by MA Combined Studies students who have completed pre-requisites in History. The module can be taken in either Semester 1 or Semester 2. You will agree the subject with an allocated supervisor , who will provide feedback on initial ideas and make constructive suggestions about how to direct your enquiries. It will be assessed with a 5000-word extended essay (including footnotes but excluding bibliography), or a combination of written submissions of equivalent length.

TO TAKE THIS MODULE MA COMBINED STUDIES STUDENTS MUST NORMALLY HAVE COMPLETED TWO 1000/2000 MODULES IN HISTORY AND THREE 3000 LEVEL MODULES, OR AN EQUIVALENT (SUBJECT TO SCHOOL DISCRETION) IN MODULES OF A RELATED DISCIPLINE

Weekly contact

There are no fixed weekly contact hours. There will be 5 meetings with their supervisor to discuss their project. Students should take note of the overall study hours expected when planning their learning
