OSC Hosts Scottish Solar Energy Meeting

The Organic Semiconductor Centre has hosted a half-day meeting of the Scottish Institute for Solar Energy Research () here in 58勛圖. The meeting focussed on excitonic solar cells, including dye-sensitized and organic based systems. Talks from at the University of Edinburgh and from Heriot-Watt University focussed on dye-sensitised solar cells. from the University of Aberdeen discussed strategies to use quantum dots for light harvesting, while from Merck gave us an insight into how large scale fabrication of organic cells is achieved. Finally the afternoon was rounded off with a double act from at the University of Strathclyde and our very own Calvyn Howells on the synthesis and application of novel germanium cruciform structures in organic photovoltaics.

Dr Paul Lane from the , Washington has visited the OSC. Dr Lane is well known for his research relating to organic solar cells and gave an overview of rapid recent progress in the field in a colloquium, followed by a research talk on his , which was published today.
