My teaching philosophy aims to provide an interactive space and cultivate learning by using innovative methods such as videos or media sources. I attempt to complement traditional, frontal formal lecturing by involving students in lectures and not just in seminars. Mutual trust, critical thinking and empathy with the students inside and outside the class have always been at the basis of my teaching.

Research areas

My research is strongly interdisciplinary, combining international relations theory and area studies. It uncovers and analyses patterns of inter-state political order resting on norms, rules, and institutions both at the global and the regional level. With respect to the latter, I have a particular interest in the area of Eurasia. My research philosophy rests on three interrelated pillars: 1) A classical, humanist approach to theory: I use at international law, political philosophy, international history, and diplomatic studies to uncover the meaning and the practices associated with the idea of ‘order’ in the minds, discourses, and practices of political actors. This is known as the English School (ES) approach to IR. 2) Attention to non-Western concepts and traditions: I familiarise myself with the cultural, linguistic, ideological, and social context(s) I research. 3) Importance of fieldwork and methodological pluralism: I prioritise fieldwork and adopt a combination of archival, discursive, and praxiological methods.
