Research areas

Graham is a Senior Research Laboratory Manager in the School of Physics and Astronomy.

Graham's research covers a number of areas in the field of optics. He develops approaches to use light to measure the chemical composition of different objects, especially those sealed behind barriers. He uses lasers to control and manipulate objects ranging from single atoms to micron-scale glass beads, to enable their use in quantum physics investigations. He also scrambles laser beams on rough surfaces and uses the resultant speckle pattern to perform metrology. Finally, he investigates methods of holographic laser beam shaping for a variety of applications.

His work has been recognised by major awards including STEM for Britain and the Museums and Heritage Awards.
