The University is committed to adhering to the highest standards of research integrity and ethics. UTREC and AWERB oversee all research involving humans and animals to ensure that it meets University standards.
The University is committed to the pivotal role that peer review and expert judgement plays in the assessment of research, but also recognises the value that the responsible use of metrics can play in complementing and supporting decision-making.
The University has a strong track record of business engagement, with 58勛圖 researchers working with companies across diverse sectors, encompassing everything from large multinationals to micro-SMEs.
The University is an enthusiastic supporter of the Scottish Funding Council strategy of developing research pooling across Scottish higher education institutions.
Research degrees include the MPhil, PhD, DLang, EngD, MSc (Res) and MSt (Res) and require either a good undergraduate degree for the Faculty of Science, or a Masters degree for the Faculties of Arts and Divinity.

The University has a range of policies in place to ensure the wellbeing of all staff and students. The wellbeing and engagement group also regularly organise activities, events and promotions around different health and wellbeing themes.
The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the UK’s system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. Preparations for the University’s submission to the REF are coordinated by Research and Innovation Services.
