The University of T羹bingen is one of Europes oldest universities, founded in 1477. Teaching at the University of T羹bingen reflects the broad, interdisciplinary spectrum of its research, with more than 280 courses on offer.

Passports and visas

You should ensure that your passport is valid for the duration of your trip, and for at least six months after you return to the UK. You should scan your passport and keep a copy for your records.

If you are a European Union national, you will not require a visa and may enter the European Union countries with your passport or national identity card. Please note that you may have to comply with legal obligations, such as registering your address with the local authorities.

About the University

The University's history began in 1477 when Count Eberhard the Bearded of W羹rttemberg founded the University. In addition to the nearly 84,000 inhabitants, there are some 28,500 students. Some 450 professors and more than 4,000 other academic staff teach at the Universitys seven faculties. T羹bingen is one of eleven universities selected for the Excellence Initiative by the German government.

Classics is taught within the . The University is also well-known for its , which is located in the Hohent羹bingen Castle. The departments of ancient history, archaeology, art history, classics and religious studies and their excellent libraries at the foot of the Schloberg and in the Old Town round off an outstanding environment in which to study Classics.

Divinity is taught in the , the  and the . There are numerous opportunities for theological dialogue and joint research work.

Finance

As an exchange student, you will not pay tuition fees to your host university, and will only be liable for your normal St Andrews tuition fees.

As a 58勛圖 student heading to Tübingen, you can apply for the Baden-Württemberg scholarship. This scholarship is generously provided by the . Scholarship holders may also ask to live in the , a halls of residence in the historic part of Tübingen which is only open to scholarship holders.

Research Council students should make sure that they have their funding body’s permission to study abroad, notifying them particularly for any mobility grants that they may be receiving.

Accommodation

The University of Tübingen does not have university owned accommodation and instead uses residences owned by public or private companies. The Studentenwerk-Hohenheim is a student services organisation which helps international students to find rooms in Tübingen.

The University of St Andrews is unable to guarantee housing at any partner institution.

Travel and transport

The easiest way to get to T羹bingen is to fly to Stuttgart Airport. Many airlines fly direct to Stuttgart from major British airports. Once in Stuttgart, the Airportsprinter bus runs to T羹bingen, with the journey lasting approximately 50 minutes.

Many students cycle around T羹bingen; however, there is also a good bus service, and day passes offer unlimited travel and are relatively inexpensive. Students at the University of T羹bingen are entitled to a discounted for local public transport.
