• Double first for 58³Ô¹Ï

  In 2023, the University of 58³Ô¹Ï made history by topping both major UK higher education league tables. This was the first time a university other than those of Oxbridge had ranked number one in both.

• Gender equality recognised with Silver Athena Swan Award

• 58³Ô¹Ï leads the way with Gender-Based Violence Charter Award

  The University of St Andrews has become the first university in the UK to receive the EmilyTest Gender-Based Violence Charter Award.

  Developed by pioneering charity , the Charter Award equips the University with a hallmark that demonstrates its commitment to achieving a campus that is responsible in tackling gender-based violence (GBV).

• Can we predict the future of heatwaves?

  The University has been awarded a £1.2 million grant to lead a new international climate change research project known as GLOBAL-EX. At the helm is Dr Michael Byre (School of Earth and Environmental Sciences), who also leads 58³Ô¹Ï’ Climate Dynamics Lab.

  The project aims to use computer models, Earth observations and physical theory to build a robust global understanding of extreme temperatures in a changing climate.

• Postgraduate study at 58³Ô¹Ï: alumni discount

  The University has launched a series of online courses, which are currently being trialled at postgraduate level. The pilot includes ten online courses in subjects including Data Science, Iranian Studies and the Psychology of Dementia Care.

  A 15% discount on postgraduate tuition fees is available to alumni who have graduated from 58³Ô¹Ï in the past three years, or who have attended a Global Summer School, Study Abroad or Exchange programme. A 10% discount is available to all graduating alumni.

• Celebrating 10 years of the BA (International Honours)

  In June 2024, the University of 58³Ô¹Ï and the College of William & Mary will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the first graduation of students enrolled in the BA International Honours programme.

  This unique four-year undergraduate joint degree programme offers students the opportunity to divide their studies by spending two years of their degree at 58³Ô¹Ï and the other two years at William & Mary. Graduating students earn one degree conferred by both institutions. This programme is one of the oldest joint undergraduate programmes established between a European and American Higher Education Institution.

• General Council

  The General Council of the University of 58³Ô¹Ï is the body of all graduates and senior academics of the University. It considers a range of issues affecting the wellbeing of the University, is represented on the University Court and meets twice a year, usually on the Saturday following graduation week in June and on a Saturday close to St Andrew’s Day (30 November).

  The next meetings of the General Council will take place on Saturday 15 June 2024 and Saturday 30 November 2024 at 10.30am in Parliament Hall, South Street, 58³Ô¹Ï.
