Honorary graduates and new professors

Students from the Class of 2023 graduated during a (mostly) gloriously sunny week in June. Honorary graduates included:

  • Sam Torrance (golfer and broadcaster)
  • Kirsty Wark (journalist and television presenter)
  • Professor Margaret Bennett (folklorist and ethnologist, singer, writer and broadcaster)
  • Professor Carmen Reinhart (economist)

They were joined by 73 students from the Classes of 2020 and 2021, who had missed out on in-person ceremonies due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

During winter graduation in November, students celebrated alongside honorands Dr Margaret Atwood (one of the world’s leading writers); Dame Evelyn Glennie (the Scottish solo percussionist); and Rufus Norris (actor and director). Gordon Moir was presented with the University Medal for services to greenkeeping.
